Volume
Volume is a series of works varying in scale, from a starting point of using a single unit (ball) to projects using many thousands. Murphy’s intention is to re appropriate existing objects and use them to explore perceptions of art and public spaces/public realm. The work allows discussion and dialogue on environments and spaces that we use and see on a daily basis but take for granted.
The balls are manufactured for use in children’s soft play areas; the juxtoposition of something intrinsically fun against our ‘serious’ and ‘adult’ environments was an interesting direction to explore’.
