Sheffield Design Week
Sheffield Design Week was established and programmed by Patrick in 2014, subsequent years have seen him become Director of the festival.
The festival is a citywide celebration of design in all its forms. Sheffield Design Week is a collaborative platform aiming to increase awareness and appreciation of design and develop new audiences. It offers both cultural and commercial opportunities, showcasing established and emerging design talent and innovative projects.
Sheffield Design Week is hosted in one of the UK’s most creative cities. Taking place annually, this week long festival plays host to an array of local, regional, national and international design, architectural and creative names. It showcases all disciplines of design, from graphic design to architecture, advanced manufacturing and technology to fashion and product design and more. We promote an exciting, varied programme, including exhibitions, workshops, talks, design conferences, installations, product launches, open studios and walking trails. The week’s worth of activity will join together venues across Sheffield and beyond in the 2015 celebration.
Patrick curated the theme of each years Design Week providing a broad and varied range of design activity taking place in venues, spaces and places. This ranged from small scale workshops, talks and installations through to a design industry conference, film screenings and exhibitions. The programme brought together a wide variety of partnerships with venues, event organisers and industry experts from across the north and beyond, intersecting frequently with manufacture and craft.
The programme featured the MADE NORTH Conference which Patrick also curated and planned. This was a key event during the Design Week, drawing together speakers and delegates from across design, craft and manufacturing to explore a core theme of the festival.
There was also a Sheffield Design & Architecture Film Festival. This event saw screenings of a selection of international design and architecture focused film alongside designer and architect led talks. At the heart of Sheffield Design Week was a Design Trail, a printed and online guide which will take visitors through the city and the wider region via a range workshops, open studios, exhibitions, places of interest and related events explaining and exploring design and making.
